Alinda Archaeological Site
Alinda Archaeological Site

One of the Lycian cities closest to the clouds: Alinda.
Perched atop a rocky hill, this ancient city offers a majestic yet mysterious atmosphere with its theater, agora ruins, city walls, and towers. Its remarkably well-preserved theater, combined with breathtaking scenery, creates the sensation of performing on a stage facing the sky. Alinda is a hidden gem — secluded, surrounded by nature, and known only to those who truly seek it.
Alinda was one of the major cities of the Caria region and rose to historical prominence during Alexander the Great’s campaigns in the 4th century BC. According to ancient sources, Queen Ada of Caria took refuge in the city and offered her support to Alexander. During the Hellenistic and Roman periods, Alinda retained its commercial and political influence. Thanks to its elevated position, the city enjoyed both defensive advantages and strategic dominance. Its agora and theater are among the best-preserved examples of ancient architecture in the region.
Viofun’s Recommendation:
Climb to the top tier of the theater and look down. You’ll see not only the stage, but the slopes, valleys, and silence itself. Alinda feels like a city that has escaped not from time, but from altitude. Before you leave, don’t forget to check out the local product stalls near the exit!
