Ancient City Alexandria Troas
Ancient City Alexandria Troas

Once envisioned as the second capital of the Roman Empire, this city now rests in the tranquil silence of nature…
The Alexandria Troas Archaeological Site, located near Dalyan Village in the Ezine District of Çanakkale, is considered one of the largest ancient cities in Anatolia.
With its Roman baths, theater, aqueducts, and harbor ruins, the city was built as both a commercial and strategic hub.
Today, the grandeur of the past still breathes quietly among its stones.
Founded in the 4th century BC by Antigonus Monophthalmus, one of Alexander the Great’s generals, the city was named “Alexandria” in his honor.
During the Roman period, Alexandria Troas grew in importance and was rebuilt under Emperor Hadrian, even becoming a candidate for the empire’s capital.
It is believed that Saint Paul the Apostle passed through the city and preached here.
Covering an area of over 400 hectares, Alexandria Troas stands as one of the grandest urban projects of the ancient world and remains a magnificent open-air archaeological site still under excavation.
Viofun’s Recommendation:
As you walk among the massive columns of the Roman baths, close your eyes — you might almost hear the echo of flowing water from centuries ago.
After your visit, head down to the coast to watch the sunset and carry with you the serenity of this ancient city into the present day.
