Bilecik Museum
Bilecik Museum

In this city where the first steps of the Ottoman Empire were taken, every display case tells a story from the past…
The Bilecik Museum showcases the city’s historical richness through its collections of archaeology and ethnography — simple in form, yet deeply evocative. In the archaeology section, visitors can see sculptures, terracotta artifacts, coins, and tombstones dating from the Paleolithic era to the Roman period. The ethnography hall, on the other hand, features Ottoman-era clothing, weapons, woodcrafts, and everyday objects that bring the city’s cultural heritage to life.
The museum is housed in the former courthouse building, originally constructed in the 18th century. Restored by the Ministry of Culture in 1997, it was opened to the public as a museum. The collection combines archaeological findings from Bilecik and its surroundings with ethnographic pieces that reflect the early Ottoman period, offering deep insight into the city’s cultural identity.
Viofun’s Recommendation:
Take a close look at the traditional women’s headdresses and embroidered kaftans displayed in the ethnography section. Each stitch carries the legacy of a civilization woven into these lands. After your museum visit, take a short walk to the Tomb of Ertuğrul Gazi to complete this historical journey with a spiritual touch.
