This unique museum brings together the city’s natural history and cultural heritage under one roof.
It is particularly famous for the elephant, giraffe, rhinoceros, and hyena fossils discovered at the Çorakyerler fossil site.
In the archaeology and ethnography galleries, you can explore coins, jewelry, weapons, and everyday objects from the Hittite, Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods.
Opened in 1972 and relocated to its newly restored historic government building in 2017, the museum houses one of Turkey’s richest vertebrate fossil collections.
It also reflects the region’s multi-layered history, from the earliest traces of settlement to the modern day.

Getting There by Bus
Take a city bus within Çankırı and get off at the “Belediye” or “Cumhuriyet Meydanı” stops.
The museum is just a 5-minute walk from either stop.

You can reach the Çankırı city center by minibuses coming from nearby districts.
From the center, the museum is within a short walking distance.

The museum is easily accessible by taxi from anywhere in the city center.
Visitors arriving by private car will find parking areas around the museum.
