Diyarbakır Archaeological Museum
Diyarbakır Archaeological Museum

Cuneiform tablets, obsidian axes, stone god statues…
Each one has come here from the heart of Mesopotamia.
The Diyarbakır Archaeology Museum presents an impressive collection that spans thousands of years — from the earliest settlements of Southeastern Anatolia to the modern day.
Artifacts ranging from the Paleolithic age to the Ottoman period — including ceramics, burial findings, figurines, and inscriptions — take visitors on a journey through time.
With modern display techniques and interactive exhibits, the museum brings history vividly to life.
Founded in 1934, the Diyarbakır Archaeology Museum is one of Turkey’s oldest museums.
In 2015, it was relocated to the former Ziya Gökalp Education Institute building near Keçi Burcu, gaining a larger and more contemporary exhibition space.
The museum focuses on artifacts unearthed from sites such as Çayönü, Körtik Tepe, Ziyaret Tepe, and Amida Höyük, highlighting especially the Neolithic, Assyrian, Roman, and Artuqid periods.
Each hall reveals a different aspect of Mesopotamia’s deep-rooted civilization.
When you study the findings from Çayönü and Körtik Tepe, you’ll be face-to-face with one of the first villages in human history.
After your visit, take a short walk along the Tigris River or follow a path toward the Hevsel Gardens to feel the soul of this ancient land even more deeply.
