Gaziantep Castle
Gaziantep Castle

Throughout history, it served as a watchtower, a defensive stronghold, and finally, a symbol of resistance…
Standing proudly in the heart of the city, Gaziantep Castle holds immense historical and emotional significance.
When you gaze from its walls, you see not just stones, but the memory of a land.
Inside the castle lies the “Heroism Panorama”, an impressive museum that depicts the Defense of Antep through visuals and reenactments.
Although the castle’s foundations date back to the Roman period, its current form was shaped during the Byzantine era.
It was later restored by the Mamluks, Dulkadirs, and Ottomans.
Its most crucial role came during the Antep Defense of 1920–1921, when the city bravely resisted the French occupation.
For this heroism, the city was granted the honorary title “Gazi” in 1921.
The museum and visual installations inside the castle bring this epic story of resistance vividly to life.
Climb the castle walls to see both the old streets and modern face of Gaziantep at once.
As you walk through the museum, listen closely to the sound effects that bring the wartime atmosphere to life —
because history here is not only read, but truly felt.
