Milet Museum
Milet Museum

The stone memory of a city is best told right beside its ruins…
The Miletus Museum, located just next to the ancient city of Miletus, transports visitors to the past with unique artifacts unearthed from excavations. Inside its halls filled with sarcophagi, statues, ceramic vessels, jewelry, inscriptions, and coins, visitors can trace a timeline stretching from the Ionian period to the Roman era. The museum also displays selected pieces from the excavations at Priene and Didyma.
The Miletus Museum opened in 1973 and was renovated in 2011 with a modern museological approach. Located directly behind the Miletus Theater, it was founded to preserve and exhibit artifacts uncovered in the surrounding area. The displayed works reveal that Miletus was not only a center of science and philosophy but also of art and craftsmanship.
Viofun’s Recommendation:
After your visit to the theater, stop by the museum and spend some time in the ceramics hall. The figures hidden on an ordinary-looking pot can tell you more about life in that era than many books today. The cool halls of the museum also make it a perfect place to rest during hot summer days.
