Museum of the History of Islamic Science and Technology – Istanbul

Sundials, astrolabes, water clocks… In this museum, science speaks the language of the past.
The Istanbul Museum of the History of Islamic Science and Technology, located inside Gülhane Park in the Fatih district, houses a unique collection of full-scale replicas of scientific instruments and discoveries from the Islamic world, dating from the 9th to the 16th centuries.
The museum offers not just an exhibition, but a profound insight into the scientific legacy of Islamic civilization.
Founded in 2008 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin,
the museum features over 500 replicas representing disciplines such as astronomy, medicine, geography, physics, mathematics, chemistry, and military technology.
These works are based on the studies of Muslim scholars who worked in renowned centers such as Bayt al-Hikma (House of Wisdom) in Baghdad.
With its models faithfully reconstructed from original Arabic sources, the museum highlights the richness of the global history of science.
Viofun’s Recommendation
Take a close look at the water clock replica at the entrance.
You’ll discover that measuring time was not only a technical endeavor, but also an art form.
Plan your visit in the morning to enjoy the museum in a calm atmosphere, then take a peaceful walk along the shaded paths of Gülhane Park.
