Olympos Archaeological Site
Olympos Archaeological Site

What makes an ancient city unique? In Olympos, the answer lies everywhere: a sarcophagus suddenly appearing beneath centuries-old trees; a stone wall hidden by the riverbank; the moss-covered remains of a theater... Olympos offers not only history but also an experience intertwined with nature. The path stretching from the entrance to the beach makes the past and the present walk side by side.
As an important harbor city of the Lycian League, Olympos was founded in the 2nd century BC. It suffered pirate attacks and was rebuilt under Roman rule. Remains of baths, an agora, a necropolis, and a theater are still visible. Its deep connection with nature is the most distinctive feature separating Olympos from classical ancient cities. Together with the nearby Yanartaş (Chimera), it also holds a strong link to mythology.
Viofun’s Recommendation
After walking among the historical structures, follow the ancient harbor road to reach the beach. Watching the sunset here is not just the end of a site visit but a spiritual experience. You may also consider staying a few days at the Olympos campsites to spend time immersed in nature.
