Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum & Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum

A museum complex where you come face to face with 12,000 years of history…
The Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum and the Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum, located in the Haliliye district, are two separate yet interconnected museums.
They showcase both the richest discoveries from Göbeklitepe and unique Roman mosaics, offering visitors a remarkable blend of archaeology and art.
As one of the largest archaeological museums in Turkey, this complex serves as a time tunnel under one roof for history and culture enthusiasts.
Opened in 2015, the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum presents artifacts from Göbeklitepe, Nevali Çori, Harran, Soğmatar, and nearby mounds, arranged in chronological order from prehistoric times onward.
Among its highlights is the 12,000-year-old Balıklıgöl Statue, the oldest known human sculpture in the world.
Next door, the Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum stands out with its Roman mosaics depicting Amazon warrior women, a theme considered unique worldwide.
The fact that the mosaics are exhibited in situ, where they were discovered, gives visitors a sense of authenticity and connection to the past.
Viofun’s Recommendation
Start your visit at the Archaeology Museum, explore the findings from Göbeklitepe, and then continue next door into the world of mosaics.
Don’t miss reading about the Amazon warrior mosaics — nowhere else do mythology and archaeology intertwine so elegantly.
