Ihlara Valley Excavation Site
Ihlara Valley Excavation Site
Imagine a place patiently carved by nature, yet marked by human hands… The Ihlara Valley, with its steep cliffs and the gentle flow of the Melendiz River, offers a world seemingly outside of time. Along its 14 km hiking trail, you walk among rock-carved churches and cool shades, embarking on a serene discovery in harmony with nature.
Historical Information
The earliest traces of settlement in the valley date back to the Byzantine period. During Early Christianity, the churches served as places of refuge and worship, and their frescoes still whisper the past. The marks of the communities that once sought shelter here centuries ago are still alive in the stones today.
Viofun’s Recommendation
Step into the valley in the cool morning, and the first bird song you hear will remind you how special this place is. Take a break in Belisırma, dip your feet in the water, and sip tea at the stone tables by the stream.
And no need to travel all the way to Egypt to see mummies! The nearby Aksaray Museum holds surprises that will astonish you. Don’t leave without visiting.
