How to Get to the Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosque
Getting to the Sultanahmet Mosque is easy thanks to its central location in Istanbul’s historic peninsula. Here are the most convenient ways to reach it:
By Tram (The Easiest Way)
T1 Bağcılar – Kabataş Tram Line
Get off at Sultanahmet Station. From there, it’s just a 2–3 minute walk to the mosque.
This tram line runs through major city hubs such as Eminönü, Sirkeci, Karaköy, and Kabataş, making it accessible from many popular areas.
By Bus
There are no direct buses to Sultanahmet Square, but you can take buses to nearby areas and transfer to the tram or walk from there:
To Eminönü: From here, transfer to the T1 tram and get off at Sultanahmet Station.
To Laleli, Beyazıt, or Aksaray: All of these are on the T1 tram line—just hop on and ride to Sultanahmet.

By Marmaray
Take Marmaray and get off at Sirkeci Station. From there, transfer to the T1 tram and get off at Sultanahmet Station.
By Ferry
Coming from the Asian Side of Istanbul?
Take a ferry from Kadıköy or Üsküdar to Eminönü.
From Eminönü, board the T1 tram and get off at Sultanahmet Station.
On Foot
Sultanahmet is within 10–15 minutes walking distance from Eminönü, Sirkeci, and Beyazıt.
Because it’s located right next to Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, and Gülhane Park, walking is also a great way to enjoy the surrounding historical atmosphere.
